SS26: Bachelor Mechatronics (IMC)

The engineering seminar is an inter-semester course in which you acquire important soft skills (scientific work, scientific writing, presenting & communicating). You will acquire much of the content in online self-study units, check your learning results in online quizzes and be accompanied in the learning process by small group supervision.

Students will learn Wind power plants with a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) with control system conducting the experiments.

As the general prospects for the global wind-energy market are growing fast, adapting to this industrial revolution is very important. For this reason, this Laboratorz experiment touches real-time application based scenarios with varying wind conditions. Thus, this course on DFIG wind turbines describes the design and function of modern wind power plants. The control of variable-speed wind turbines is studied using a doubly-fed asynchronous generator as an example. Wind can be emulated realistically with a servo-machine test stand and "WindSim" software.
After succesful accomplishments, student will:
-Understand the design and operation of wind power plants
-Learn about the physical principles whereby wind power is transformed into shaft power
-Learning about various wind power plant concepts
-Investigating generator operation at various wind intensities, as well as control of output voltage and frequency
-Determining optimal operating points under various wind conditions
