Digital systems and microcomputer technology have become an integral part of our daily lives. This lecture provides a basic understanding of these areas. It covers the necessary basics of combinational logic circuits, sequential logic circuits, finite state machines, central processing units of computers and assembly programming (x86). Numerous exercises are offered to deepen the lecture contents. We rely on the simulation program Digital (https://github.com/hneemann/Digital) to study logic circuits. Jasmin is used to learn x86 assembly programming (https://github.com/TUM-LRR/Jasmin).
This course is new. It is modeled after its German equivalent "Digital- und Mikrocomputertechnik". Course material will be provided on an ongoing basis by translating the German course material. This is work in progress. You can find an overview of the course content below.
